R. Brad Cornelsen, CPA

Chief Financial Officer

R. Brad Cornelsen, CPA, is the chief financial officer for MV Transportation, Inc. and all subsidiaries, joint ventures, partnerships and affiliates. He initially joined MV as the director of finance, was promoted to corporate controller, and in 2010 was appointed by the board of directors to his current role as CFO.

Making great strides in positioning the company for growth over the next decade, Cornelsen has worked closely with MV’s board and executive team to improve accountability, ensure accuracy and integrity of data reporting, and minimize the firm’s exposure to economic risk. He has renegotiated the company’s credit facility, managed a successful offshore insurance captive, led the charge in hedging both fuel and interest rate risk and oversaw the acquisition of a $50M domestic truck dealership, while significantly increasing the company’s operating cash flow.

Cornelsen has significantly strengthened the company’s position since joining the firm in 2007. He has been integral to the support and sales of additional operating units including the acquisition of Apple Bus, the sale of MV Student Transportation and the negotiation of several key operating contracts.

Cornelsen holds oversight of all daily finance functions and systems, including accounting, payroll, treasury, tax, pricing ,and IT. Additionally, he is accountable for the organization’s strategic design and execution of annual and long-term business and strategic plans. This includes the management and coordination with the firm’s external auditors.

Cornelsen developed his financial acumen early on in his career. Serving as a manager for the ABAS Audit Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP for three years, his auditing responsibilities focused primarily in transportation industries, including Burlington Northern Santa Fe (ticker: BNI) and Kansas City Southern Railroads (ticker: KSU). Here he oversaw teams responsible for US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and managed the audits of Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) customers. Brad also spent five years as a Director of Finance at SPX Corporation’s Constructed Products Group, managing $400M global division P&L, responsible for general, project and cost accounting, estimating, and project management functions at all U.S. manufacturing and distribution operations.

Among his many accomplishments, he led accounting integrations of two international acquisitions totaling $600M of major competitors, increasing revenue from $300M (85% domestic) to $1.1B (30% domestic) coupled with the increases in organic growth. He also served as the acting chief financial officer for their Dry Cooling business ($50M) which included responsibility for all contract negotiations and capital investment, the creation of a global commission policy for internal regional sales managers and external representatives generating a $740k savings in year one, and led the start-up of the Rental Cooling Tower division.
