Douglas J. Gies
Douglas J. Gies is the president for MV’s east group operations, and has responsibility for MV operations in the South, Midwest, the Northeast, and the state of Colorado. Appointed to this position in mid-2010, Gies serves as the company’s executive level representation for all transit operating contracts. He directly manages a team of regional vice presidents, directors of maintenance and safety, and several personnel that all support MV’s operating locations.
Gies is MV’s direct liaison to its clients, working closely with local governmental and jurisdictional transit professionals in all contractual matters relating to MV’s operations. He enforces MV policy and procedures, making sure that the company lives up to the promises it makes to its employees, passengers, and customers. A leader in passenger transportation for more than two decades, Gies is adept in transit management, skilled in labor relations, and wholeheartedly committed to the ongoing improvement and evolution of public transit services.
Prior to his current role, Gies served as a regional vice president for the states of Colorado, Arizona, Alaska, Utah, and Oregon. After serving for more than ten years as an area general manager for Laidlaw Transit Services, Gies made the move to MV in 2007 when Laidlaw was sold.
Throughout his career Gies has overseen significant and high-profile services, including those for the Denver Regional Transportation District and the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada’s paratransit program.
Gies is the past president of the Colorado Association of Transit Agencies (CASTA) and is an active member in the American Public Transportation Association.
